Grand Prize Winner at the 2008 EB Owner’s Meeting

COMPANY: Downes Forest Products

LOCATION: Hawthorne, New Jersey

PROJECT SITE:  Hoboken, New Jersey

EB MODELS UTILIZED:  TM-45MD & EB-60

PROJECT/CHALLENGES: The project required the installation of a roof deck mix as supplied by the general contractor. Generally, the TM-45MD was used for the soil blend and the EB-60 applied the mulch. The most extreme part of the project had the blower hose running up 7 floors, then down 2 floors, and then across several hundred feet where finally the soil blend and mulches were blown in place.

PRODUCTS APPLIED:  Soil mix which weighed 1600 lbs. per yard plus hardwood mulch.

QUANTITIES/DISTANCE: A total of 900 yards of soil blend and 140 yards of mulch.

COMPANY PROFILE: Downes Tree Service started in 1983 strictly as a tree removal service, providing expert service in all phases of tree care and maintenance. Since then, they have expanded into Downes Forest Products where they recycle tree trimmings into mulch and compost leaves into compost for application with their three Express Blower trucks.

TM-45MD getting ready to work. Notice the minimal amount of disruption and safety hazards by excessive equipment and laborers at street level.
Blower hose running up approximately 7 stories. Note: due to a concrete mixer having an earlier hose issue, Downes was required by the general contractor to wrap their blower hose with the blue tarping while applying the soil mix.
This level has had some product already blown in place. Notice the two hoses stretching across this rooftop to reach another rooftop area (the EB-60 is now on-site assisting with the mulch portion of the project).
Blower hoses going down two levels to another application area. Notice that some of the landscape project has already been completed.
