Hospital Green Roof and Landscape Project

Project Scope/Challenges: Rexius contracted to do the entire landscape, irrigation, and water features for a new regional hospital campus. Sacred Heart Medical Center is now home to 386 private patient rooms and nearly 1.2 million square feet of space. The Project of the Year entry focused on the 7 green roofs they installed.
Rexius had a 14 day window in which to complete these green roof areas. The roof ranged from 4-6 stories. After running hose up 6 stories, they would often have to run hose across the roof and down two stories to blow in product for outdoor courtyard areas.
It was five years from the first bid application until completion of the project in August 2008.
Products Applied: For the green roofs, 220 tons of aggregate, 120 cubic yards of mulch, and over 700 cubic yards of rooftop mix were applied.
